Grandy links

Here's a story about a 13-year-old Grandy fan from Hubbardston, Mich.

"Curtis Granderson. He's like my idol. My friends told me because I'm really skinny and stuff, 'You're not going to be a baseball player.' And then you look at Granderson and he's really skinny, and he's just sitting there hitting home runs and everything."

Curtis is cold

Curtis Granderson has been on a cold streak. Grandy went 0-for-5 last night, making him 1-for-21 over his last five games. Maybe Kauffman Stadium's new Godillatron is distracting Curtis... or maybe having his dad in the stands...

This seems like good time to put a plug in for Ice Sculptures Ltd (a reader of The Grandy Report). They are the people who did the sculptures for this year's TigerFest (remember Curtis'). See some of their other work below:

Granderson to bat third?

Jim Leyland has said in the past that Curtis Granderson would be a middle-of-the-order hitter later in his career. In all likelihood after Leyland's most recent lineup shuffle, Grandy will end up in the heart of the order tonight. Since returning from the DL 1 1/2 weeks ago, Curtis has knocked five homers. John Lowe points out that Grandy's last 23 homers have been over the solo variety. Imagine what he could be able to do with some men on base in front of him.

Here's a prediction of the lineup that we will see Monday night courtesy of Mack Avenue Tigers.

Gary Sheffield, DH
Edgar Renteria, SS
Curtis Granderson, CF
Magglio Ordonez, RF
Miguel Cabrera, 1B
Carlos Guillen, 3B
Pudge Rodriguez, LF
Jacque Jones, LF
Placido Polanco, 2B

Grandy makes Tigers Grreat!

I know the title is dorky... but it's true and I love the alliteration.

I've lost track of the Tigers' P.G. record (I think it is 6-4) but it doesn't matter. Tiger fans don't need stats and numbers to validate that our team is much MUCH better since Grandy has come back... especially the offense. Bilfer takes a look at this on DTW and mixes a few stats in there for you non-believers.

Jim Souhan has a good piece in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Star-Tribune. Here is an excerpt:

The guy who makes the Tigers go is one of the first players you'd send to a foreign country to promote baseball (he went to Africa last winter to do so), one of the first players you'd want in your clubhouse (he's got two college degrees and signs enough autographs for the whole team) and the first player Detroit sends to the plate every night.
